Our client is a distinctive and highly regarded organisation that is one of Australia's leading renewable energy groups. The organisation has numerous projects at varying stages of development, construction and operation in Australia, Latin America and the Asia Pacific regions. This leadership role will be responsible for implementing the corporate health, safety and environment strategy in the Australia / Pacific business unit.
Reporting to the General Manager Australia / Pacific and the Global Manager HSE, key accountabilities include:
- Managing and maintaining an effective and efficient health, safety and environment management system (HSEMS) which focuses on the systematic reduction of risk exposure
- Fostering a positive health safety and environment (HSE) culture
- Ensuring that all relevant legal, compliance and regulatory requirements are met in relation to HSE, within the Australia / Pacific Business Unit, whose activities cover such functions as office based activities, development, construction and operations in Australia / Pacific, and personnel employed by the Australia / Pacific Business Unit and the Corporate Group based in the Melbourne office
- Managing the collection, treatment and analysis of HSE performance data to enable objective evaluation of HSE performance with a specific emphasis on streamlining and improving the overall quality of management and board reporting;
- Managing and continuously improving the contractor management program encompassing the entire contracting process, ie. beginning in the pre-qualification phase and ending with post-contract performance reviews
- Developing and delivering targeted HSE training sessions for staff, consultants, contractors and visitors as part of a structured Australia / Pacific HSE Training Program
- Providing input to the planning activities of the Development Team to ensure post-construction environmental obligations are designed to achieve optimal outcomes
- Developing and managing a team of skilled and experienced HSE professionals, whilst assisting in the development of HSE competency of non-HSE employees within Australia / Pacific
The ideal candidate:
A strong leader and people manager with a broad base in HSE gained from a large infrastructure (oil & gas / mining / construction / manufacturing) environment. An individual with strong systems implementation skills and a demonstrated track record in technical audit and HSE incident investigations. Able to interact with a wide range of stakeholders at both the corporate and site level whilst effectively managing priorities and expectations. You are a highly agile individual, a confident communicator/presenter who is outcome focused and has strong influencing skills. Experience of working in a contractor management environment is essential.
